World Action on the Radio & Afrofunkin’ it Up for House of Hope

As most of you have heard by now, we’re in the final hours before the big Afrofunk Music Festival produced by Maisha Productions. It starts tomorrow night, Thursday, July 24 @ 9:00pm, at the Independent in San Francisco. The festival is three days of amazing African, Caribbean, Latin (and more!) music and proceeds support our partner project, House of Hope! Please come and/or donate, if you can! Maisha have been working hard to put forth an amazing event and you won’t be disappointed!

Last weekend, Becky and I were asked to join Jeremiah Mpoh, from Maisha, to promote the event on KPFA’s “Ritmo de las Americas” radio show hosted by Rosi Reyes. Click here to listen to the show: http://kpfa.org/archives/index.php?arch=27420 Note that we’re about 45 minutes in.

In a serendipitous turn of events, Nicole and Pedro are with the House of Hope kids in Uganda! They’ve been in recent contact giving some updates (of which you will see more of on the blog, soon). I just wanted to share part of those emails as it pertains to the House of Hope project:

“I can’t even begin to describe what an amazing time we’re having out here with the project. The children are absolutley amazing, and Jenifer and her staff are a beacon of hope and security for these young children. It’s truly an honor to work with this project. If you only could see how sweet and precious and so very much in need these kids are.”

We’re so excited that Nicole and Pedro can be with the kids while we are in San Francisco raising money that they’ll see the direct results of. We’re also so thankful that Maisha Productions has chosen House of Hope as its charity project for this event! We can see the community to community connections at work, all the time!

I hope to see you all at the event!
