Thanks for stopping by the World Action blog. It’s Nicole writing and over the next two months I’ll be chronicling a trip that Pedro and I have been planning since last December. We’ll be traveling to Tanzania and Uganda to visit our partners at the Boona-Baana Center (in Dar es Salaam) and House of Hope, in southwestern Uganda. We’re also veering down to Zambia for 2 weeks to camp and see where Pedro will be working later this year. We’re both excited — and I’d say somewhat prepared — for the adventure. The last time we were in Africa was in November 2002 before Boona-Baana had officially opened the Green Door Home and before any of the 10 kids who now call it home had arrived. We are so excited to finally be meeting the kids in person! We’re also excited to meet Jenifer, the incredible co-founder, director and teacher-extraordinaire at House of Hope, and of course her staff and the 101 young students in Uganda.
We fly out a week from Tomorrow, June 9th, and will pass through Geneva for a week to get a few things in order for the graduate program I’ll begin there in September. After that, we’re on to Tanzania June 16 to start the adventure. We have some sleeping bags and sunscreen and a few other necessities, but mostly, we’re prepared for a cultural experience beyond preparation. Thanks for signing up to see us along (and invariably laugh at our challenges and mishaps – as someone should!) I look forward to keeping you entertained! xo, Nicole
