The Boona-Baana Center for Children's Rights

Located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Boona-Baana Center was the initial inspiration and very first partner project of World Action after co-founders Nicole and Pedro Carta traveled to Tanzania to work with the Center on a volunteer vacation.

Boona-Baana was created by husband and wife team Marco Barra and Brooke Montgomery in 2002. After relocating permanently to Tanzania and adopting their first two children from Ethiopia and South Africa, Brooke and Marco were inspired to do something more to help the many homeless and orphaned children left in the wake of the AIDS epidemic in Tanzania. The Boona-Baana Center now operates a number of small projects assisting orphaned and other vulnerable children in Tanzania and advocating for their rights. Since 2004, World Action has worked to support Booan-Baana’s Green Door Home, a home for 10 orphaned or abandoned children in the Sinza neighborhood of Dar es Salaam.
